Antiques Explorers This group meets monthly and is on the hunt for treasures visiting shops in Gainesville and in towns in the surrounding area. Starting out in the morning, there is a stop for lunch before afternoon shopping and a return home mid-afternoon. Books & Bites (Evening Book Group) Have
a taste for a really good book or like to sink your teeth into and lose
yourself in a juicy novel? Join us the 2nd Tuesday night of each month
at 6:30 pm for Books N’ Bites where we will dig into a different book
(selected with input from group members) from a variety of genres each
month. To spice things up a bit, we will also complement our book talks
with beverages and aperitifs fitting to the theme of each book, either
at a participant’s home or local eatery. Borrower’s Boutique You can borrow items for your grandchildren's visit (i.e. Pac N Play, highchair, stroller, etc.) and also items for rehabilitation (i.e. wheelchair, cane, walker, shower chair, commode, etc.) for visiting elderly or for your own recuperation. Bridge (Ladies) Ladies Bridge Group meets on the third Monday of the month (second Monday in November and December) from 10:30-2:30 pm. Bunco Bunco meets the first Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. at Panera Bread on Dawsonville Hwy, and sign up is open year round. Casual Dining In Each month from January through April, a host and her guest have a dinner party for total of 8 people. Each month the dinner party is hosted in a different member’s home and is a different group of 8, so you will always be meeting new people. Each member must host once during the season. The host provides the main course, and the other guests bring side dishes. Sign up occurs annually in September and October. All members of the group are invited to both the Kickoff Party at the end of October / early November and the End of Year Party in May. Participation is limited to 24 couples. You must sign up each year, and you must commit to the entire season. Christmas on Green Street CHRISTMAS
ON GREEN STREET is a one-night event held each year on the first Sunday
in December. It is sponsored by the City of Gainesville and has become a
tradition with Newcomers. Members dress in Edwardian costumes and
participate in the Annual parade. Crafty Queens Crafty queens will meet on the fourth (4th) Tuesday each month (except November and December - alternate days will be scheduled if interest exists). Time and location to be announced monthly. This Interest Group will focus primarily on paper crafting (scrapbooking and card making) but hopes to teach and showcase a new skill every few months (ex: quilling, calligraphy, art journaling, stamping techniques, bow making, genealogy documentation, etc.). Join us and indulge your inner "crafty queen"! Dominoes/Mexican Train Jump on the train the first Thursday of the month from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Panera Bread on Dawsonville Highway. Gardening Gardeners’ day is the first Wednesday of the month. They visit area nurseries, potteries, public gardens, flower shows, and each other’s gardens. Hand and Foot Canasta (Couples) Couples Hand & Foot meets the second Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in members’ homes. Hand & Foot Canasta (Ladies) Ladies H&F Canasta group plays at 1:00 in the afternoon on the third Thursday of the month. Health and Wellness Meetings will be held monthly in the evening with locations and times TBA. Our goal is to provide information and experiences to members to help them improve their overall health. We'll cover topics such as Diet, Nutrition, Physical Fitness (what's right for your body), Sleep, Stress management, supplement and vitamin info, what to do in emergency situations when you're waiting for the ambulance, blood sugar management, hormones/menopause and more
| Ladies Night Out
This group meets once a month rotating evenings of the week. Our activities vary but are mostly fun, high energy gatherings for ladies who like a little adventure. Expect anything from craft nights to murder mystery parties, or from relaxed dinner out to escape rooms and scavenger hunts.
Hiking Hike the trails of local, state, and national parks in the area on the third Tuesday of the month from 9:00am until 4:00pm. Jet Ski Members meet for a group ride starting the third Thursday in May through the last Thursday in August with a break for lunch or dinner. Lunch Bunch Get to know fellow members and sample the fare at area restaurants on the second Tuesday of each month.Mahjong Morning Coffee Visit with friends at Sweet Magnolia’s CafĂ© and Bakery (located on the Square) from 9:30a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on the second Wednesday of the month. This is a great opportunity to get to know other members. Bring your beverage of choice or purchase coffee at Sweet Magnolias. Join us for lively conversation and a great start to your day.This is a new group that welcomes GNC bridge players and their spouses, significant others or partners to play at 1:30 pm on the first Tuesday of the month. GNC members may wish to sign up as a team “couple”. Registration will be in pairs. We invite players who need a bit of a refresher with the newest bidding rules and conventions as well as seasoned players who enjoy playing. Pinochle This Group meets almost every Friday at 10:00 a.m. in members’ homes, breaks for lunch and continues play. New players welcome, and we're happy to teach the game!
RV Adventurers The RV Adventurers is a new group for people who travel and camp in recreation vehicles. We will have speakers and field trips to learn more about RV's. Camping trips will be planned. Singles ~ Meet & Eat
Sharing Sunday Afternoons Hostess provides: Ice, cups, plates and utensils Guests provide: Appetizer to share and their choice of beverage
Theater and Movies Enjoy a movie or live theater with the group. This year Jen will be arranging for group members to go to the movies with her and Debbie will be handling the outings to live theater performances. Warm Up America This group knits and crochets afghans for the Red Cross, baby items for Newborns in Need, and scarves and hats for the homeless in Gainesville. They meet the third Tuesday morning of the month.
Wine Explorers Wine lovers visit area wineries and tasting rooms monthly. Writers Group The Writers Group is a supportive writers’ critique group that encourages writers of all experience levels and genres. The group meets on the third Wednesday of each month at various locations from 10 a.m. - noon. |
