George vs. George: “Takin’ Sides”
Georgia in the American Revolution
Georgia, the last of the original thirteen colonies to be founded, was deeply divided over whether to join the Revolutionary cause. Discover a fascinating chapter of American history you may not have encountered in school—or may have forgotten over time. Penny Walker, Honorary Chapter Regent of the Colonel William Candler Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, will share the compelling story of Georgia’s role in the Revolutionary War.
As the colony prospered under British rule, many Georgians believed they needed British protection against possible attacks from Native American tribes, making the question of independence especially complex and contentious. Join us to explore the debates, struggles, and remarkable stories of Georgia’s patriots and loyalists, as well as the heroines and heroes whose contributions
deserve to be remembered.

June Donation Recipient
In June, we’ll focus on children in the foster care system. Our financial beneficiary is Hall-Dawson CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates).
CASA’s mission is to ensure that children put into the foster care system and requiring court intervention because of abuse or neglect have a safe placement and/or permanent home. In the courtroom and beyond, decisions are made that will shape these children’s futures. CASA provides screened, trained, and supervised volunteers to serve in the role of the children’s guardians ad litem— advocating for and ensuring that their interests are seen, understood, and represented. In 2025, there were 99 CASA volunteers providing advocacy to 387 children in Hall and Dawson Counties.
